Chairman's Message
Prof.Dr. Awadhesh Singh
Chairman
A Leader Rooted in the Soil of Varanasi
Dr. Awadhesh Singh was born on 1 February 1955 in Pindra, Varanasi — a constituency he has remained deeply connected to throughout his life. He pursued his academic studies at the historic Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi, completing his M.A. in 1978 and going on to earn his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in 1983 — a journey that instilled in him a lifelong reverence for education as the most powerful instrument of social change.
By profession an educator, Dr. Singh’s formative years were spent understanding the aspirations and struggles of ordinary families in and around Varanasi. It was this ground-level understanding of society — its needs, its gaps, and its possibilities — that would go on to define both his political career and his work as an institution builder.
Political Career — A Voice for the People of Pindra
Dr. Awadhesh Singh’s political journey is one marked by persistence, principle, and an enduring bond with his constituency. He has been associated over the years with the Indian National Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party, and eventually the Bharatiya Janata Party — a trajectory that reflects his evolution as a public servant driven not by ideology alone, but by a commitment to serve the people of Pindra at every stage of his career.
Dr. Singh assumed office as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on 19 March 2017, representing the Pindra constituency of Varanasi district as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His entry into the BJP fold marked a significant chapter — aligning his grassroots work with the development agenda being pursued at the state and national level.
In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections, Dr. Awadhesh Singh demonstrated the strength of his public mandate by winning the Pindra assembly seat with a commanding margin of 35,559 votes, defeating his nearest rival from the Bahujan Samaj Party. This decisive victory was not merely a political win — it was a resounding endorsement from the people of Pindra of his years of service, presence, and dedication to the constituency.
As an MLA, Dr. Singh has been a consistent advocate for the development of rural Varanasi — championing infrastructure, connectivity, employment, and above all, education for the communities he represents. His efforts in the direction of rural development and regional progress have been a hallmark of his public service, earning him the trust and affection of constituents across Pindra.
Service to Society — Education as Empowerment
While his political career has given Dr. Singh a platform, it is his work in education that truly defines his legacy. Long before ACP came into being, Dr. Singh recognised a profound inequity in India’s educational landscape — that quality, career-oriented education was largely inaccessible to young people from smaller cities and rural backgrounds. He resolved to change that.
The establishment of the Asha Educational Society and subsequently the Asha Pharmacy College was his answer to this challenge.
While His vision was to create an institution that would open the doors of the global Merchant Navy to young Indians from Varanasi, from Uttar Pradesh, and from every corner of the country — young men and women who had the ability and the ambition, but lacked the access.

The Thought Behind Asha Pharmacy College
Dr. Awadhesh Singh’s motivation for founding Asha Pharmacy College was deeply personal and profoundly social. He saw in the maritime industry not just a career option, but a pathway to financial independence, global exposure, and national pride for India’s youth. He believed that a young person from Pindra, Varanasi, deserved the same opportunity to serve aboard an international vessel as someone from Mumbai or Chennai.
His founding philosophy rests on three convictions — that education must be accessible, that training must meet international standards, and that every student must leave the institution not just certified, but truly prepared for the world. These principles continue to guide AMTCR’s growth and operations to this day.
For Dr. Awadhesh Singh, Asha Pharmacy College is more than an institution — it is his contribution to the nation. Every seafarer it produces, every family it transforms, and every community it uplifts is a testament to the belief that drove him to build it: that India’s greatest untapped resource is the potential of its youth.
"Education is not charity — it is the most powerful investment a society can make in itself."
